THE Wagin community’s gun owners will be under scrutiny.
For the next several weeks the police will be conducting inspections of firearm cabinets within the Wagin community.
Wagin Police would like every firearm owner to be prepared for inspections and save themselves any legal issues.
All firearm licence holders have been mailed out a notice of intention to inspect their firearm cabinets.
The inspections are taking place to ensure the firearm licence holder has a firearms cabinet and that it complies with security requirements.
Ensure registered firearms are properly secured.
Regional firearm licence holders have been targeted due to their seclusion and that their firearms are an essential piece of equipment needed to run a farming business.
Stolen firearms are being used in the commission of crimes that could lead to serious injury being caused to members of the public and police.
Firearm cabinet keys must also be secured and not left lying around or on top of firearm cabinets, where offenders can easily locate them.
